who loves you baby

AMBER ([personal profile] amber) is!

Born in Sydney, Australia, she was given a cassette tape of OK Computer for her tenth birthday, the start of a life-long love affair with Thom "lazy-eyed" Yorke, Radiohead, and the '90s Brit-alt scene. While she loves almost all music with the passion of a thousand suns, her favourites tend to be artists with a unique sound within their genre. There is also a special place in her heart for a capella groups, modern classical, covers, show tunes, and any song she can use to win cash at pub karaoke.

One day she plans to be President of the Galaxy.

NEO ([personal profile] baconface) is young and cool and a resident of America's "deep south". She scraps a bit and yells sometimes but is generally the affable type. She is neurotic at the best of times, but this means all her posts will be cleanly formatted and easy to navigate. An extrovert who masquerades consciously and successfully as an introvert, Neo spends her spare time obsessing over the prospect of vaccinated time travel and criticizing Pitchfork's prosaic reviews while writing verbose ones of her own that she has to date never shared with anyone . . . until now. Actually, it's still pretty unlikely her opinions will make it too far past her Twitter feed. But that's why this site is called Dreamwidth. Because it lets you all dream. Widely.

She likes plinky and whimsical sounds, ska, kick drum abuse, and Jimi Hendrix. She disliked the movie Avatar primarily because of how it portrayed the United States Marine Corps. She is also ninety-nine percent real bacon. The remaining percent is Gentleman Jack.

RY ([personal profile] crescendo) has been a musician pretty much from birth, and rumour has it that she's been singing longer than she's been speaking. Twenty-three and currently residing in sunny Seattle, Washington, she's going to be famous some day, just you wait and see. May or may not intend to inflict original recordings and her own covers on you poor people from time to time. She, like Neo, has a whole lot of opinions that are probably better expressed in 140 characters or less.
Likes: Really good sandwiches, harmless trolling, tattoos, the word "delightful", mash-ups, 80s/90s pop, singing and dancing to Disney music, funky covers, melodic indie pop, shoegaze/post-rock that isn't grating, Nate Ruess, and fucking your mother.
Dislikes: Owl City, being judged for still wholeheartedly enjoying the Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls, and Amber's lies and slander!!

THIS POST MAY ALSO BE USED TO INTRODUCE YOURSELVES, particularly if you intend to contribute heavily to member-upload posts or pick up a lot of tunes. Tell us about you and your musical tastes! It can only help the quality of our uploads. It can only help our personal tastes. It can only broaden horizons.

hi guys!! I'm Caitlin, I've known [personal profile] amber for some years now and that's how I got here. I can't make any promises as to how much I'll contribute to member uploads, but I do have a few bands up my sleeve that I'd like to share! but I'm always up for any opportunity to grab new music. I'm twenty, I'm in California, I study psychology and work in a boring office and perform improv comedy weekly, and that pretty much sums up me!!

my taste in music is not incredibly unique. I am most fond of bands with singers who don't really sound like they're the... most talented at singing. like, their voices are awesome to listen to but maybe technically they aren't so skilled? Andrew Jackson Jihad is a good example of this for me. I love anything with piano, and more often than not like acoustic/stripped down versions of songs the most. my favorite band since I was old enough to have a favorite band is They Might be Giants, take it or leave it, and has fostered a lifelong love of happy-sounding songs with not-so-happy lyrics.

ah, let's see, what else. I also enjoy non-vocal music in the vein of God is an Astronaut, Explosions in the Sky, Ratatat etc. I unabashedly love musicals. I've got a major hard on for bands with both female and male vocalists (The Hush Sound, The New Pornographers, Stars). fkjds let's be really honest: I pretty much like everything. and not in the way where people go "I like everything... EXCEPT RAP AND COUNTRY." I like rap and (some) country. I even like a couple Owl City songs here and there. I have the entire Pokemon soundtrack in my iTunes. ~*~2 b a master~*~

the only thing I'd say I don't like is any song where I can't fucking understand the singer. that will turn me off immediately. learn to enunciate, god damn it :')

ANYWAY THAT'S IT, wow I wrote you guys a book. I'm really stoked for this!! :Db

HELLO! I am commonly known as Tree on the Internet. I am a slightly aimless 22-year-old residing in northern California. I don't know how often I'll contribute to member uploads, since I am always "????!!??" about my eclectic taste in music, but I enjoy downloading new things. I used to play alto saxophone in concert and jazz bands, but I never got the hang of solos. :( Wish I had.

I gravitate towards songs that I associate with certain visuals! That is a terribly vague thing to say. Pop songs/songs with a good 'dancing' beat although HA I am uncoordinated, those that I can sing along with, or those that come with nifty music videos. Broadway musicals -- oh, dude, I can share some of those if it's okay. Disney songs. Soundtrack music, generally of the epic variety ie Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean. Cirque du Soleil, Vienna Teng, classic rock (I.. don't know if that's the right genre, things like Livin' on a Prayer and Carry on Wayward Son), Postal Service, Irish/Celtic music...

UGH WOW this is getting long. I dislike spoken word songs and John Mayer, and no that isn't just because of his recent remarks. IS THIS GOOD? I got wordy.

...HELLO!! I am known mostly as Soka to most of you folks, I think :B I am a 21-year-old living in norCal at the moment o/ Have played piano since I was a wee thing, used to be in a choir, played the violin for a while as a kid, and then played the flute through middle and high school. SO YEAH I am a bit biased toward classical music, but really, I am easy when it comes to music in general. I will listen to almost anything (the hard part is making me download it) and don't really have any hates, although it is harder to make me like most rap (though I haven't listened to it in a while so maybe not???).

I DUNNO WHAT ELSE TO SAY HERE oh yes, I can provide various Disney songs, classical music (...I need to remember to rip the crapton of CDs we have around the house), and video game/movie OSTs :'D

[personal profile] corinthian, who also responds to GET OUT and AJ! Mostly from the Midwest middle of nowhere but also from NYC these days. An aspiring hobo and occasional writer with the musical taste of an ex-orchestra junkie who discovered all kinds of pop and less-than-pop music all at once. Makes iTunes looks like a traffic accident! I guess that means "varied taste".

I'm [personal profile] quixotic! I'm 22, living in Singapore, that city that is often confused with China and Malaysia. My family is heavily music-oriented from the top to the bottom (my mom did tons of music lessons, my dad worked for EMI and Disney and knows the inside of the music industry). I, myself listen to a mixture of tunes, though I'm weak to french music and choral stuff! Oh, but I enjoy making mixes on 8tracks which everyone is willing to check out and mock.

I am [personal profile] fantastic! I mean, do I have to add anything. That's the great thing about your journal name being an adjective.

... oh fine. I'm Sian, I'm 22, I hail from the rainy hills of Britain. I am a giant nerd. My music taste I consider clinky. I listen to a buttload of indie, lots of singer-songwriter, some hard rock, and anything by the cast of Glee. My favourite things are currently Vampire Weekend, Florence + the Machine and anything by Nate Ruess ever. I also have a weakness for anything with male-female singers in harmony, doop doop.

'SUP. I'm [personal profile] misfit and I like uh. music and stuff. I am kind of flaky on the internet these days but I really like music so you will probably see me around a bit maybe. See I am all committed and everything!!

I tend to like music with really fabulous lyrics and/or harmonies, which means that 1) I don't love any particular style more than another, and 2) I tend to really, really strongly dislike rap. I get really attached to songs, to the point where I'm now 25 and still love all the songs that I loved when I was twelve. I like mainstream music as well as stuff that no one has ever heard of, and I love hearing new things. I also enjoy shoving (good) Australian music at other people and forcing them to listen to it until they like it, or else.

[personal profile] telly 2010-04-17 06:02 am (UTC)(link)

I'm 25, live in NorCal, and listen to all sorts of random music. I especially like songs with a good rockin' beat, piano melodies (especially in songs that are more on the rock spectrum), vocals I can sing along to, and lyrics I can match to a mood or visual. I do not like jazz, don't much care for R&B/hip-hop, and avoid American bubblegum pop as much as possible. (Non-American pop is fine, especially if I can't understand the lyrics.)

I am a huge music socialist who believes in ~sharing the wealth~ via illegal uploads so I am super excited to be here!
